One of the most tumultuous and divisive decades in world history, marked by the civil rights movement, the Vietnam
War and antiwar protests, political assassinations, and the emerging “Generation Gap.”
In the 1960s:
- 1964 President John F. Kennedy is shot and killed.
- On a rainy weekend in August, 400,000 people gather in Woodstock, NY for a music festival.
- The draft begins as we fight communism in the Vietnam.
- Martin Luther King Jr. and Bobby Kennedy are assassinated.
- The Apollo 11 mission lands the first man on the moon.
