- The first hydrogen bomb is successfully detonated by the United States
- The Double Helix DNA Model is revealed by Francis Crick and James Watson
- Rosa Parks is arrested in Alabama after she refuses to give up her bus seat, sparking the Civil Rights Movement.
- The polio vaccine, frozen dinners, McDonald’s chain is started, “In God We Trust” is added to all paper currency, the micro-chip, NASA is created, Alaska and Hawaii become US States

- A car – $1510 ending at $2,200 in 1959
- A house – $8,450 ending at $12,400 in 1959
- A gallon of gas – .18 ending at .25 in 1959
- A loaf of bread – .12 cents
